Free brim-block tooling for hat makers
3D print an Open Road Style brim block for your bench.
The Blocksmith Works Brim Workshop provides free, printable Open Road Style brim-block tooling. Choose the released size and oval option, print the matching Fit Verification Coupon first, then assemble the full four-quadrant package for brim work.
A free 3D printable brim block
The released Open Road Style Brim Workshop makes a practical starting form for a classic, gently shaped brim. It is free to use, with no account, subscription, or paywall.
The profile is an Open Road Style interpretation: a gentle crown break, shallow valley, and lifted outer edge. It is a working form for shaping felt, not a finished hat and not a shortcut around the maker’s own judgment at the bench.
Choose the released size and oval option, then print the matching coupon first.
Keep the coupon and the full package at 100% scale in the slicer.

Use the Fit Verification Coupon before a full brim print
A brim opening has to match the selected size, oval, and release profile. The small coupon is the sensible first print: it helps verify the opening and joining fit on your printer and filament before you commit the material and time required for the full quadrant package.
- Open the free Brim Workshop.
- Select the Open Road Style release and the matching size and oval.
- Download and print the matching Fit Verification Coupon at 100% scale.
- Confirm the coupon before downloading and assembling the full four-quadrant brim block.
- Inspect the finished working surface and use controlled heat, steam, and tie-down practice appropriate to your felt and material.
What the current Brim Workshop offers
The current public release centers on the Open Road Style profile, with released size-and-oval selections, matching coupon sets, four printable quadrants, and compatible stand and riser options where provided. The workshop keeps the preview focused on the finished-hat intent so the maker can judge the form before downloading.
Additional brim profiles are not treated as interchangeable. Each has to earn its place through geometry review, physical printing, fit checks, and felt work before it is offered as a public Blocksmith release.
Conformer tools and a better custom fit
A brim block begins with a dependable crown opening. The Community Tool Crib includes Steve Jans’s free printable conformer package, with his original 3MF project, assembly notes, hardware list, and video link.
Blocksmith Works is also developing a trace-based custom-fit workflow for makers who need a more individual starting shape. It is being validated carefully: meaningful asymmetry must be preserved, raw trace and head data stay local, and a physical verification step belongs before expensive felt is committed.

Use the free crown-block generator for a made-to-measure crown and stand, then use the Open Road Style Brim Workshop when you are ready to shape the brim. The sizes and head ovals guide explains why circumference and head shape remain separate fitting decisions.
